About the Community Bike Shop

Our Mission

The Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA),In partnership with the Community Shop Class, is creating a bike shop experience that provides a welcoming space, tools, and the expertise to teach valuable mechanic, organizational, and shop management skills to people of all ages and backgrounds.

SABA’s Community Bike Shop focuses on local empowerment through education, skill-building, and networking. Through our mentored do-it-yourself (DIY) repair services we are teaching our customers how to maintain and repair their bikes. We’re not just fixing bicycles; we’re building a future workforce and a community of confident, self-reliant cyclists.

We offer the chance to learn, grow, connect, and work with fellow cycling enthusiasts. And because we’re a non-profit, we offer these services and workshops at lower costs or even for free, making cycling and bike repair more accessible to everyone. We commit to serving the community and aligning with organizations that share our vision for promoting bicycle mechanics skills training and sustainable transportation options.

Our Values

We value inclusivity, respect the diversity and dignity of our customers, and strive to meet their specific needs and preferences. Our services are available to the public regardless of who you are and where you’ve come from. Bicycles have a positive impact on individuals and communities. Bicycles boost self-confidence, self-reliance, and social integration. They enhance mobility, productivity, and income. Bicycles foster physical, mental, and emotional health. The bicycle is more than just transportation; they inspire hope. The Community Bike Shop is a SAFE SPACE; all are welcome.

Strengthening the Community

To ensure a well-equipped staff capable of delivering high-quality services, the necessary skills and knowledge are required. Our training and educational programs cover industry practices and technologies. Job shadowing and apprenticeships offer hands-on learning through SABA’s UpCycle program and Ride Ready pop-up repair clinics.
